Abercrombie & Kent founder Geoffrey Kent pioneered the community-first approach to conservation more than 60 years ago, and today we continue to invest in the communities in the places where we travel.
Our work encompasses the pillars of enterprise, education, health and environment. But none of these can be addressed in isolation — good outcomes in one require investment in and attention to the others. How can someone stay healthy without access to clean water? Or care about local conservation if they can’t earn enough money to care for their children, or train themselves in a new career when there are few job opportunities? And because we know that local communities are best positioned to answer these complex questions, we believe in co-creating programs with the people who benefit from them.
Our work keeps the needs of local communities at the forefront of every program. Some of A&K Philanthropy’s most effective projects are those where we have supported and collaborated with an entire community, designing projects alongside the people who live there, and taking a holistic, community-wide approach so that every project and every program links with another, creating a long-lasting positive impact.
